Greene Defends Swift Against Trump Wedding Attacks

Former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly criticized President Donald Trump for his recent attacks on Taylor Swift, marking a notable shift from her previous support of the administration.

Appearing on Tuesday's episode of The View, Greene defended the pop star following her wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3.

"First of all, congratulations to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. I thought it was fantastic," Greene told The View. "I think it's absolutely absurd for the 80-year-old president of the United States to attack one of the most popular musicians and talented women who's so generous to her staff and takes care of them."

The remarks represent a significant departure for Greene, who is now described as a reformed Trump supporter who has denounced his administration. Her comments came in response to a series of attacks the president has directed at Swift in recent days.

During the broadcast, cohost Joy Behar suggested that Trump believes he is more popular than the 36-year-old musician. Greene agreed, offering insight into the president's apparent fixation on the entertainer.

"I think that's why he's always picking on her because he would like to be," Greene responded. "Her concerts turn out massive amounts of people, more so than, tragically, [Trump's Great American State Fair]" in Washington, D.C."

The exchange referenced Trump's remarks at a press conference on Monday, July 6, where he claimed superiority over Swift on social media platforms.

"It was announced about two days ago. The new numbers just came out. You know who the No. 1 person in TikTok is by far? Trump, me. I'm No. 1," Trump told reporters, according to the Economic Times. "Like, Taylor Swift was number 11. I'm No. 1 in TikTok by far."

The president also appeared to mock Swift and Kelce's wedding announcement. The official White House X account posted a parody image that replaced the couple's "JusT&T Married" billboard message with "Trump is your president." The post was captioned "IT'S HAPPENED!!!"

The tension between Trump and Swift dates back to the 2024 presidential election, when the musician endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump responded by posting "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" on Truth Social in September 2024. Harris ultimately lost to Trump in the election after becoming the Democratic nominee when then-President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.

The president continued his criticism in May 2025, posting on Truth Social: "Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'"

Greene's defense of Swift signals a broader shift in her political positioning. Once a staunch Trump ally during her time in Congress, she has emerged as a critic of the administration, using her platform to challenge the president's behavior and rhetoric.
