Harry Styles alarmed concertgoers at Wembley Stadium on Friday, June 26, when the singer appeared to choke on water and collapse onstage during his performance in London. The 32-year-old performer was nearing the end of his set as part of the Together, Together Tour when the incident occurred.
Viral footage captured on TikTok shows Styles seemingly choking on water while performing his show-closing song "As It Was." The former One Direction member then fell to the ground and heaved multiple times while appearing to struggle for breath. He remained on the ground for nearly 20 seconds, during which time he loosened his tie and patted his chest, before pulling himself back up to complete the performance.
The TikTok footage revealed the back of Styles' blue shirt drenched with sweat as he finished the concert, raising questions about whether the extreme heat conditions in London contributed to the incident. Us Weekly has reached out to Styles' representative for comment on the matter.
The outdoor performance came during a week of unprecedented heat warnings from the Met Office, Britain's national meteorological service. On Thursday, June 26, Met Office Chief Meteorologist Andy Page issued a "Red Warning" for London and much of the southeastern United Kingdom.
"This exceptional spell of hot and humid weather will maintain its grip on the UK for a little longer," Page warned on Thursday, according to the Met Office. "Although the current red warning for areas in more central and western parts of England and Wales will expire later today, the heatwave will still be bringing high temperatures to these areas, albeit moving away from the peak heat of Wednesday and Thursday."
Page indicated that daytime maximum temperatures could exceed 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 degrees Fahrenheit), potentially rising to 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in some locations.
Fans expressed concern as the video circulated widely on social media. One viewer questioned why no one came to check on the performer, while another suggested the incident demonstrated his professionalism. A third commenter theorized that Styles was suffering from the extreme heat.
Despite the Friday night incident, Styles was scheduled to perform at Wembley Stadium again on Saturday, June 27. The singer is in the middle of an extended residency at the historic venue, having debuted the tour there on June 12. He will continue performing at Wembley through Saturday, July 4, with Shania Twain serving as the opening act for the London shows.
The Together, Together concert tour represents a departure from traditional touring models. Styles has opted for limited residencies across four continents rather than a conventional world tour. Following the London dates, he will perform in São Paulo and Mexico City during July and August before beginning a 30-date run at New York City's Madison Square Garden on August 26. The MSG shows, which feature support from Jamie xx, will be Styles' only United States dates on the tour.
