A fuzzy-legged zebra foal is settling into life at Cape May County Zoo, and our community gets to decide what she'll be called.
The female foal arrived on July 17, 2026, and zoo officials are now asking residents to weigh in on her name through a unique voting system that doubles as a fundraiser for animal care.
Three names are in the running: Gloria, Gemma, or Terra. Rather than a simple poll, each vote requires a donation to the zoo, with the amount determining how many votes you cast. A larger contribution means more votes toward your preferred name, and every dollar raised will go directly toward feeding and caring for the zoo's residents.
The contest runs through August 16, with the winning name determined by whichever option raises the most money in total donations. Zoo officials will reveal the results on their Facebook and Instagram pages on August 17.
Residents can participate either in person at the zoo or online at www.cmczoo.com, where a photo of the baby zebra is featured on the homepage with voting instructions.
"This naming contest is a fun way for the public to connect with the Zoo, while directly supporting the animals who call it home," said Commissioner Vice Director Andrew Bulakowski. "Every donation helps us keep providing the highest standard of care."
