Indiana Candidate's Forum Rant Draws Scrutiny

A Democratic candidate for a county council seat in Indiana is drawing attention after a combative appearance at a general election candidates' forum, where she called for the removal of MAGA Republicans from government and issued a stark warning to her political opponents.

Jaime West, who is running for Fayette County Council, District 4, in the Hoosier State, was asked at the forum what policy she would like to pass that would benefit the county but might prove unpopular with voters. According to an account published by TMZ.com on October 13, 2026, West paused to consider the question before stating that she wants to fire all MAGA Republicans, describing them as racist and dumb and saying she does not like being around them.

During a rambling discourse, West blamed the political right for all of the state's issues and claimed she has been repeatedly threatened by people on the right, including what she characterized as death threats.

When asked for a final comment, West stared into the camera with a wide-eyed look and said, "We have guns too," according to TMZ.com.

TMZ.com also noted that West appeared to be slurring her words and had trouble staying focused during the conversation. The outlet reported that it reached out to West to ask what, if anything, was going on with her but had not heard back.

The remarks arrive with Election Day just three weeks away, a period in which candidates typically seek to moderate their messaging and appeal to undecided voters. West's comments instead marked an escalation of rhetoric in a local race that would ordinarily draw little statewide attention.

Fayette County, located in eastern Indiana, is home to a council that oversees county fiscal matters, including budgeting and appropriations. District 4 is one of several districts represented on the council, and the general election will determine who fills that seat.

The forum was intended to give voters a chance to hear from candidates across the ballot. West's response to a question about policy priorities instead focused on national political grievances, a dynamic that has become increasingly common in down-ballot races in recent election cycles.

As of the publication of the TMZ.com report, West had not responded to requests for comment about her remarks or her condition during the forum. The outcome of the race will be decided by voters in Fayette County on Election Day, now less than a month away.
