Jimmy Johnson's Fishing Championship Returns to Atlantic City

Our waterfront is about to become the epicenter of competitive sport fishing as Jimmy Johnson's Atlantic City "Quest for the Ring Championship Fishing Week" (JJFISHWEEKAC) returns for another summer of high-stakes angling and celebration.

The Northeast edition of the legendary coach's tournament will run from Saturday, July 12 through Friday, July 18, transforming the Frank S. Farley State Marina at the Golden Nugget into a hub of maritime competition and community gathering. Anglers will also have the convenience of a second weigh station at Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland.

"I've been involved with many fishing tournaments over the years, but this is not your typical fishing tournament — it is an experience," said Pro Football Hall of Fame Coach Jimmy Johnson in a statement shared with Shore Local. "We've seen record-breaking purses, extraordinary performances, and growing community impact year after year. These events have evolved into multi-day celebrations that lift communities, support local nonprofits, and create memories that last long after the boats return to the dock. I can't wait to see what 2026 brings."

The tournament's flexible format sets it apart from traditional fishing competitions. Rather than requiring participants to fish every day, anglers will select three out of five eligible fishing days, allowing them to strategize based on weather conditions, personal schedules, and their assessment of optimal fishing opportunities. Competitors can depart from their dock of choice and utilize either weigh station, adding convenience to the competitive experience.

The competition features Calcutta-style categories spanning multiple species and divisions. Anglers can target white marlin, blue marlin, tuna, wahoo, and dolphin, while specialized divisions recognize small boat competitors and non-sonar participants. The tournament also includes inlet challenges and the distinctive JJ'S DAILY MVP Game Ball Calcutta, creating diverse strategic approaches for different types of fishing operations.

Beyond the fishing itself, JJFISHWEEKAC promises a week of premium hospitality that reflects Atlantic City's reputation for world-class entertainment. The festivities kick off with a Nutrl Kickoff Party, followed by nightly hospitality suite dinners throughout the week. Spectators can enjoy weigh station activations and programming from prominent partners including Hendrick's Gin, Michelob Ultra, Tito's Vodka, Jersey Cape Yachts, and the New Jersey Lottery.

The Hard Rock Atlantic City will host the Ultimate Gifting Experience, where captains and anglers receive premium items from tournament partners. The collection includes performance apparel, specialized gear, sunglasses, and footwear designed for serious anglers.

The championship week culminates in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City Closing Awards Bash, where the fishing community will gather under a James Bond-inspired theme. The evening will feature live entertainment, open bars, and culinary experiences as organizers crown a new Ring of Honor inductee and celebrate the week's top performers.

The event represents more than just competitive fishing—it's an economic boost for our region and a showcase of Atlantic City's ability to host premier sporting events. With seven days of sponsor activations, hospitality events, and the influx of anglers and their teams, local businesses from marinas to restaurants stand to benefit from the tournament's presence.

For fishing enthusiasts and spectators alike, JJFISHWEEKAC offers a unique opportunity to witness elite sport fishing competition while enjoying the amenities and entertainment that make Atlantic City a destination. Whether you're an experienced angler or simply curious about the sport, the weigh stations will provide exciting viewing as teams bring in their catches throughout the week.
