Martha Stewart has deleted an Instagram post featuring a Halloween costume depicting a "hungry" poor person after the image prompted backlash online. The post was removed on Sunday, November 1, 2026, according to TMZ.com, but not before multiple Instagram users captured screenshots of it.
In the since-deleted photograph, Stewart appears in tattered clothing with dirt on her face, holding a clipboard with a sign that reads, "I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!" The image had reportedly been part of an Instagram carousel promoting candles she sells on QVC. In the caption, Stewart, who has an estimated net worth of $400 million, wrote, "My QVC candles are perfect for Halloween!!!"
The post was subsequently shared on Reddit, where numerous users criticized the costume as "out of touch," "offensive," and "gross." TMZ.com reported that it had reached out to Stewart's representative for comment and had not received a response as of Sunday morning.
The incident highlights the heightened scrutiny public figures face on social media, particularly when content touches on sensitive social issues such as poverty and hunger. Stewart, a lifestyle entrepreneur and television personality, has not publicly addressed the deletion.
