MAYS LANDING, NJ – On Friday, July 31, 2026, Jerry Vargas-Perez, 27, from Mays Landing,
NJ, was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State prison subject to an 85% period of parole
ineligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act by the Honorable Joseph Levin, J.S.C.
On November 26, 2022, Atlantic City Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence
in the area of Winchester and North Providence Avenues in response to a domestic violence
assault. Police met with the victim, who reported her boyfriend, Vargas-Perez, started an
argument that became physical. The victim advised police that Vargas-Perez pushed her onto
the bed, grabbed her by the neck, and strangled her until she nearly lost consciousness. Vargas-
Perez was arrested on scene.
In an unrelated incident, on July 6, 2024, Hamilton Township Police Department officers were
dispatched to a residence in the area of Kenwood Court in response to a domestic violence
assault on a different victim. The victim advised Vargas-Perez started an argument that became
physical. Vargas-Perez placed his hands around the victim’s neck and strangled her until she
could not breathe. Vargas-Perez was again arrested on scene.
On February 27, 2026, Vargas-Perez, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree aggravated
assault on a domestic violence victim.
