GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A new 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital has opened in Galloway Township, expanding access to specialized care for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries and other serious medical conditions.
The facility is the result of a partnership between AtlantiCare and Select Medical, a national rehabilitation provider that operates facilities in dozens of states. State Sen. Vince Polistina said the hospital fills an important healthcare need in southern New Jersey following the closure of Bacharach Rehabilitation Hospital.
"We had the ribbon cutting for the partnership between AtlantiCare and Select Medical today," Polistina said during an appearance on WOND's Off The Press with Scott Cronick. "It's going to be 60 beds, a rehab facility focusing on stroke patients, brain injury patients — just something that is absolutely tremendous for this region."
The new hospital is located on Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway Township and provides inpatient rehabilitation services designed to help patients regain mobility, communication skills and independence following serious illnesses or injuries.
Polistina said the facility complements AtlantiCare's long-term Vision 2030 initiative by bringing nationally recognized healthcare partners to the region.
"This is part of the continuation of AtlantiCare's Vision 2030," he said. "They're bringing in these partnerships — Select Medical, Temple with the medical school, Stockton with the College of Health Sciences and Cleveland Clinic with cancer care. It's absolutely tremendous."
Unlike outpatient rehabilitation centers, the new hospital is designed exclusively for patients requiring inpatient care after being discharged from an acute-care hospital.
"People need the acute care, whether they're getting that at AtlantiCare or another hospital," Polistina said. "But they also need the post-care. This gives them the ability to go right into a facility after they leave the hospital."
He said the hospital represents another major investment in the region's healthcare infrastructure while helping ensure residents can receive specialized rehabilitation services closer to home.
