One of our region's most beloved summer traditions takes over Ocean City's bayfront this Saturday as Night in Venice celebrates its 71st year with a unique blend of patriotic pride and holiday cheer.
This year's "Stars, Stripes and Christmas Lights" theme pays tribute to America's 250th anniversary while embracing a festive Christmas-in-July spirit. The celebration promises to draw thousands of spectators for an evening of illuminated boats, entertainment, and a spectacular fireworks finale.
Celebrity Grand Marshals Lead the Festivities
Former Phillies All-Star John Kruk will join actor Randy Quaid as this year's grand marshals. Quaid, whose portrayal of Cousin Eddie in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" has become iconic, brings perfect star power to the holiday-themed event.
Santa Claus himself will make an appearance alongside historical figures representing America's founding era, including portrayals of Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, and George, Martha, and Thomas Jefferson.
Parade Route and Timing
The decorated boat parade launches at 6:30 p.m. near the Ocean City-Longport toll bridge, then navigates through the back bays and lagoons before concluding at Tennessee Avenue.
Prime Viewing Locations
Most attendees gather along the bay at public street ends, where complimentary grandstand seating will be offered first-come, first-served from Battersea Road to Tennessee Avenue. Those who prefer bringing their own seating can stake out spots at other bayfront street ends or the bayside park at Second Street.
For families seeking a more comprehensive experience, the Bayside Center at 520 Bay Ave. provides bleacher seats with views of both the parade and fireworks display. The venue features entertainment from a DJ, face painting activities, and food vendors. Adult admission runs $10, while children 12 and under pay $6, with fees included.
The Ninth Street Bridge draws crowds as well, though chairs cannot be set up on the bridge itself.
Transportation and Parking Tips
Complimentary shuttle buses begin running at 4 p.m. from three locations: the Ocean City Municipal Airport, Tennessee Avenue soccer fields, and Ocean City Community Center. These shuttles transport visitors to parade viewing areas and provide return service after the event concludes.
Drivers should anticipate significantly increased traffic volumes both before the parade begins and after it wraps up. Parking limitations will be enforced along portions of the bayfront throughout the day, and vehicles parked illegally risk being ticketed or towed.
Fireworks Finale
After the final boat passes, a fireworks show will light up the sky from a barge positioned in the bay north of the Ninth Street Bridge. The pyrotechnic display is scheduled to begin sometime between 9 and 9:30 p.m., depending on when the parade wraps up.
The optimal viewing area for fireworks stretches along the bayfront from the Ocean City-Longport toll bridge north to 16th Street, giving spectators an unobstructed view of the colorful finale to our community's summer celebration.
