Oktoberfest Returns to MudHen for Three-Day Wildwood Celebration

Märzen lager, German-inspired food, live polka music and family entertainment are planned Sept. 18-20

WILDWOOD — Beer, brats, polka music and plenty of Bavarian flavor are coming to Wildwood as MudHen Brewing Company prepares for a three-day Oktoberfest celebration.

MudHen will hold its Oktoberfest from Friday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 20, at the brewery at 127 W. Rio Grande Ave., with a weekend of seasonal beer, German-inspired food, live music and family entertainment.

The celebration begins Friday with the tapping of MärzHen, MudHen's German-style Märzen lager brewed specifically for the Oktoberfest season. The beer will remain available throughout the weekend.

“Oktoberfest is one of our favorite ways to bring people together for great beer, great food, and live music,” organizers said in announcing the event. “It's a weekend that celebrates community, craft brewing, and the start of fall at the shore.”

German-inspired menu

MudHen is also rolling out a special Oktoberfest menu for the weekend.

Among the offerings are an $18 beer brat sandwich topped with grain mustard, porter gravy and beer cheese on a pretzel roll; $14 sauerkraut balls made with bratwurst and served with German mustard; and a $16 Bavarian pretzel accompanied by beer cheese and German mustard.

German potato salad will be available for $9.50, while a side of sauerkraut made with cabbage, caramelized onions and MudHen Pilsner will cost $7.

Limited-edition Oktoberfest merchandise is also planned. T-shirts will sell for $25, while commemorative steins will cost $17 empty or $22 filled with MärzHen, according to the brewery's announcement. Merchandise will be available while supplies last.

Music throughout the weekend

Live entertainment starts Friday with Doppelgänger from 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday will have the busiest schedule of the weekend.

Face Painting by Donna is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by the Oktoberfest Polka Band from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Biergarten.

Circus performers will entertain guests from 5 to 8 p.m., and Polkadelphia will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Station House.

Polkadelphia mixes traditional oompah music with unconventional covers, including songs associated with artists such as Radiohead and The Beatles.

Doppelgänger returns Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. to close out the weekend.

The brewery describes the event as three days of “beer, brats and Bavarian fun.”

Family activities included

While craft beer is a centerpiece of Oktoberfest, Saturday's schedule also includes activities aimed at families.

Face painting and circus performers will run during the afternoon and early evening, while music will continue into Saturday night.

The Oktoberfest celebration is open to the public, according to MudHen. The brewery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

MudHen Brewing Company opened in Wildwood in 2018 and has since expanded its brewery and restaurant operation, including The Station House entertainment and event venue.

The brewery operates year-round at 127 W. Rio Grande Ave. in Wildwood.
