Paulina Porizkova Weds After Seven-Month Legal Battle

Supermodel Paulina Porizkova and television writer Jeff Greenstein have officially married in Italy, the couple announced Friday, July 10, following what they described as a grueling seven-month legal process to navigate Italian marriage requirements for foreign nationals.

Porizkova, 61, and Greenstein, 62, shared news of their nuptials in a joint Instagram post with Elle Czech, posting a simple caption that read: "Just married💍."

The couple appeared to celebrate the marriage in Porizkova's native Czech Republic following the Italian ceremony. However, the path to matrimony proved far more complex than a typical wedding, as the pair detailed in a candid Instagram video posted two days before the official announcement.

"Getting legally married in Italy as an Italian is complicated enough," the couple explained in the video caption. "When you add the combo of two foreign people, you're talking about roughly seven months of paperwork. And the fun seemingly never ends, even once you're declared married."

The bureaucratic challenges did not dampen the celebration, however. The couple expressed gratitude for loved ones who traveled significant distances to attend the ceremony. "We have so much to share with you all, but at the moment we're also trying to see all of our loved ones who traveled some distances to be here, and just enjoy our favorite place with our favorite people," they wrote. "There will be lots more to come!"

The wedding arrives one year after Greenstein proposed to Porizkova. At the time, the model shared a video with the simple caption, "He asked," while Greenstein posted the same clip with the response, "She said yes."

For Porizkova, this marks her second marriage. She was previously married to singer Ric Ocasek from 1989 until their separation in 2017. The former couple remained legally married but separated when Ocasek died at age 75 in 2019. Porizkova and Ocasek shared two sons: Jonathan, 32, and Oliver, 28.

The marriage comes amid significant life changes for the couple. In May, Porizkova drew widespread attention after discussing her housing situation on the "Twenty Good Summers" podcast she co-hosts with Greenstein. The Sports Illustrated cover star revealed that she had to vacate her New York City apartment, which she had occupied since 2021, just days before the Italian wedding.

"No matter how great a tenant I was for six years, he didn't really want to give us an extension on the lease, even though I begged and pleaded," she said on the podcast. "And so we have to move out of here four days before we get married in Italy. Not great."

The model reflected on the emotional significance of leaving the residence. "We're starting over completely, both of us. Because we are about to move out of this apartment that I love so much, that has kept me safe, and where I've sort of grown up to be a woman, I feel," she explained.

After her comments generated public sympathy, Porizkova clarified the situation in a subsequent Instagram video. "Strictly speaking, we're not getting 'evicted' evicted," she explained. "My lease expired, and my landlord just didn't want to renew it for any amount of time except for a full year, which we didn't want to do."

The author acknowledged the privileged nature of her circumstances, stating: "So it's really on us. I feel bad about all of you who have such great sympathy for us, when in fact, it's privileged people problems."

Despite the logistical challenges surrounding both their housing transition and the complex Italian marriage process, Porizkova and Greenstein have successfully begun their new chapter together, surrounded by family and friends in what they describe as their favorite location.
