MAYS LANDING — A Middlesex County man has pleaded guilty to a drug distribution charge after authorities said Atlantic City police found fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine during a traffic stop earlier this year.
Colvin Cumberbatch, 43, of Piscataway, pleaded guilty Thursday to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend a sentence of three years in New Jersey State Prison.
The charge stems from an April 1 traffic stop in Atlantic City.
Police stopped a vehicle driven by Cumberbatch and deployed a K-9 to conduct a sniff of the vehicle, according to prosecutors. The dog indicated the presence of drugs.
A subsequent search of Cumberbatch allegedly uncovered 213 wax folds containing fentanyl, two clear plastic bags containing cocaine and 43 pills later confirmed to be methamphetamine, prosecutors said.
Cumberbatch entered his guilty plea before Superior Court Judge Dorothy Incarvito-Garrabrant.
He was released from jail pending sentencing despite an objection from the prosecution, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Cumberbatch is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 29 before Superior Court Judge Daniel Kurkowski.
