Sources with direct knowledge of the situation told TMZ.com that the family of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber has been informed the death resulted from an apparent overdose. Gerber had been living in a residence situated apart from the main structure on the facility's property, those sources said.
An official determination of the cause of death has not been issued. The Medical Examiner's Office must still perform an autopsy, a process that will include toxicology testing to identify any substances present in Gerber's body at the time of his death.
A representative for Gerber's parents and his sister, Kaia Gerber, verified the death to TMZ.com, stating that the family is requesting privacy during what the representative described as a "very difficult and painful time."
Gerber entered the modeling profession while still a teenager and, over the course of recent years, spoke publicly about the challenges he faced with substance abuse and mental health. He was the only son of Crawford and Rande Gerber.
