Reality television personality Kash, whose legal name was Mackayla Paige, was shot and killed in downtown Oakland early Sunday morning, according to local reports. She was 29 years old.
Oakland police officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 1:30 a.m. and discovered a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead.
Authorities have taken a woman from nearby Richmond into custody in connection with the shooting. Police have not released the suspect's identity or disclosed what led to the deadly encounter.
Hours before the shooting, Kash shared videos on her Instagram Stories documenting a night out with friends on Saturday. The posts captured her enjoying the evening shortly before she was killed.
Kash had appeared on multiple reality programs, among them "Real West Coast Baddies," "RoomH8z" and "Young & Reckless."
Her cousin, Nicky Clayton, spoke with KTVU and expressed disbelief at the news. Clayton said Kash harbored ambitions of achieving fame and launching her own business.
A makeshift memorial has been established at the location where the shooting occurred. The investigation into Kash's death is ongoing.
