Diego Sarabia, one of seven men named in a civil lawsuit connected to the Cornell University Jane Doe case, has asked a New York judge to impose a gag order on attorney Thomas Giuffra, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. Sarabia's legal team contends that Giuffra has been litigating the matter in the media rather than in the courtroom.
In a filing, Sarabia's lawyers accuse Giuffra of conducting a coordinated public relations effort, pointing to interviews where he alleged that Cornell engaged in a cover-up, that evidence was destroyed, and that additional individuals may have been involved in the alleged assault. The filing also references TMZ's October 6 report on Giuffra's claims that fraternity members prioritized self-protection over justice.
Sarabia's legal team further asserts that Jane's attorneys were working with journalists prior to the lawsuit being filed, suggesting a premeditated media strategy. They argue that Giuffra's continuous public commentary risks prejudicing the jury pool before any trial begins.
The proposed gag order would apply to both parties, restricting public statements about the case and prohibiting the disclosure of private information or evidence not yet made public. The underlying allegations stem from an incident in October 2024, when Jane claims she was gang-raped at the Chi Phi fraternity house. The case has drawn national attention and prompted scrutiny of the university's response.
