Sea Isle City Man, Relative Charged After Two Police Officers Injured During Bar Fight Response

SEA ISLE CITY — Two Pennsylvania men are facing criminal charges after authorities say they assaulted Sea Isle City police officers responding to a fight at a local bar, leaving two officers injured, including one who required hospital treatment.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:17 p.m. on July 24 after Cape May County Communications received a 911 call reporting a fight in progress at a business in the 6400 block of Landis Avenue.

According to the Sea Isle City Police Department, officers arrived and determined that Patrick McStravog, 31, of Audubon, Pennsylvania, had been involved in a physical altercation with other patrons inside the establishment.

Police said McStravog was identified as the primary aggressor in the fight and suffered minor injuries during the altercation. Emergency medical personnel responded and began treating him before escorting him to a waiting ambulance.

Authorities said the situation escalated when Robert McMonagle, 60, of Norristown, Pennsylvania, identified as a family member of McStravog, became upset and attempted to push past a uniformed police officer to confront individuals involved in the original fight.

Police allege McMonagle struck the officer in the chest while attempting to get past him. Officers then attempted to place McMonagle under arrest, but investigators said he resisted, requiring officers to use physical force to safely take him into custody.

During that struggle, police said McStravog left the care of EMS personnel and rushed toward the arrest scene.

Before officers could stop him, authorities allege McStravog assaulted another officer who was assisting with McMonagle's arrest.

Police said McStravog also resisted arrest, resulting in officers using physical force to take him into custody.

Two Sea Isle City police officers were injured during the incident. One officer was transported to a hospital for additional medical treatment.

McStravog was charged with:

  • Third-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer

  • Obstruction

  • Resisting arrest

  • Simple assault

McMonagle was charged with:

  • Third-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer

  • Resisting arrest

  • Disorderly conduct

Following a finding of probable cause, both men were charged on complaint warrants and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in accordance with New Jersey's Criminal Justice Reform procedures and Attorney General guidelines.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
