Secret Service Investigates Iran-Linked Threat Video Targeting First Family

The United States Secret Service has launched an investigation into a threatening video linked to the Iranian government that targets First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump, the president's son.

Tasnim News Agency, an organization reportedly connected to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, published the video on Monday, July 27. The animated production carried the title "Where to Kill Melania" and featured imagery of upscale New York City department stores where the first lady, 56, allegedly shops, according to The Independent.

The video also displayed images of the first lady's motorcade. In a particularly alarming conclusion, the production directed a threat toward Barron, 20, with text stating: "This is just the beginning. Barron Trump, wait for us."

Federal protective services confirmed they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring addressed the situation in a statement released Wednesday, July 29.

"The Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees," Herring told Us Weekly. "Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence."

The White House has not yet issued additional comment on the threatening video.

This latest security concern adds to a troubling pattern of violence directed at the Trump family. President Donald Trump, 80, survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. The president sustained a wound to his upper right ear when Thomas Crooks fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle from a nearby rooftop. Crooks was killed by law enforcement during the incident.

The Pennsylvania attack claimed the life of audience member Corey Comperatore and left two other attendees with severe injuries.

More recently, gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington D.C. in April of this year. Security personnel evacuated President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and press secretary Karoline Leavitt from the stage as the situation unfolded. The shooter was apprehended, and authorities later rescheduled the dinner for Friday, July 24.

Following that incident, the president praised the response of protective services on his Truth Social platform, writing: "Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely."

The Secret Service provides protection for the president, first lady, and other members of the first family as part of its core mission. The agency routinely evaluates potential threats and coordinates with other federal law enforcement entities to ensure the safety of its protectees.
