Emergency crews responded Thursday afternoon near 2nd Avenue after surfers reportedly brought the person to shore
NORTH WILDWOOD — Surfers helped pull a person from the ocean in North Wildwood Thursday afternoon before emergency crews arrived, according to a published report.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. near 2nd and Ocean avenues.
6ABC Action News, citing witnesses at the scene, reported that surfers reached the person in the water and brought the individual to shore. Police, fire and emergency medical personnel responded to the area.
The person's identity and condition had not been publicly released as of early Friday morning.
Authorities also have not publicly disclosed what caused the person to become distressed in the water or whether the individual had been swimming, surfing or engaged in another activity.
The incident occurred after seasonal lifeguard coverage had ended, according to 6ABC.
The location is also North Wildwood's designated surfing beach. City information identifies 2nd Street as the city's current surfing beach and advises beachgoers to swim only at locations protected by lifeguards.
North Wildwood's municipal code states that ocean bathing is permitted only when beaches are protected by lifeguards.
