Tupac Killer Had Violent Incidents in Jail Before Trial

The man convicted of killing Tupac Shakur engaged in repeated violent and disruptive behavior during his pretrial detention, according to records from the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.

Duane "Keffe D" Davis accumulated numerous serious violations between his arrest on September 29, 2023, and the commencement of his murder trial, documents obtained by TMZ reveal. The infractions ranged from physical altercations with fellow inmates to threats against corrections staff.

In December 2025, Davis became involved in a physical confrontation with another inmate in the facility's dayroom while returning from a visit with a family member. The detention center records indicate both men engaged in mutual combat, exchanging punches and grappling with one another. A corrections officer deployed pepper spray to halt the fight before additional staff arrived to separate the combatants.

A March 2024 incident involved a confrontation with a corrections officer regarding when Davis could leave his cell for free time. The situation escalated when Davis allegedly shouted at the officer, "Who do you think you are talking to? I have been doing this s---t since before you were born," according to TMZ. The officer informed Davis he had forfeited his free time privileges for the day and instructed him to return to his cell.

The argument continued, with Davis threatening to fight the officer and punch him in the "f---ing face," the records state. Authorities subsequently transferred Davis to disciplinary housing for multiple rule violations, including refusing to follow direct orders from staff and threatening physical harm against another individual.

Another August 2024 violation stemmed from Davis expressing anger about his scheduled free time, which prevented him from making a telephone call to arrange bail assistance. Davis directed his frustration at two corrections officers, repeatedly calling them a "piece of s***" before asking them to "have a heart," according to the documentation. He then returned to his cell while continuing his outburst and kicking his cell door. Officers placed Davis in lockdown for 24 hours due to the verbal abuse.

A separate August incident occurred when corrections officers attempted to remove one of two mattresses from Davis' cell, as he was not authorized to possess a second mattress. Davis allegedly became irate and screamed, "This is some bulls***!" A physical struggle ensued as officers removed the mattress, resulting in Davis being handcuffed. One officer sustained a scratch to his knuckle during the confrontation.

The records also document minor infractions, including passing a commissary note to another inmate.

A Las Vegas jury convicted Davis last month of the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur in a drive-by shooting. Prosecutors presented evidence that Davis provided the murder weapon to another individual in their vehicle, and that person fired the fatal shots after the rapper had assaulted Davis' nephew.

Davis is scheduled for sentencing on October 13.
