UFC Fighter Proposes After White House Knockout Victory

In a night that blended combat sports with romance, UFC fighter Mauricio Ruffy dominated veteran Michael Chandler with a first-round knockout on the White House lawn Sunday evening, then immediately proposed to his girlfriend in front of the crowd.

The proposal unfolded inside the Octagon moments after referee Mike Beltran stopped the contest with 31 seconds remaining in the opening round. Ruffy's translator addressed the audience with a question for the fighter's girlfriend, Nadine.

"What better place to ask my wife to get married?" Ruffy's translator said from the Octagon, turning to the crowd, according to TMZ. "Nadine, I love you. Would you marry me, since we're right here at the White House?"

Commentator Joe Rogan observed the response from the broadcast booth. "She gave a thumbs up," Rogan said, according to TMZ.

The proposal carried a note of ambiguity, as Ruffy referred to Nadine as his "wife" during the translator's remarks. Whether the couple is already married or the term reflected a translation nuance remains unclear, but the gesture marked the pinnacle of Ruffy's professional career to date.

Before the romantic conclusion, Ruffy demonstrated why he earned the opportunity to compete at such a prestigious venue. The Brazilian fighter unleashed a barrage of flashy, powerful strikes against the 40-year-old Chandler, who struggled to withstand the onslaught throughout the opening round. Despite the veteran's efforts to survive, Beltran intervened to protect the fighter known as "Iron" Mike from further damage.

The knockout victory over Chandler continued an explosive trend at Freedom 250. All three fights on the card concluded by knockout in either the first or second round, delivering an action-packed evening for spectators on the White House grounds.

The unique setting of the White House lawn provided an unprecedented backdrop for UFC competition, and Ruffy capitalized on the historic moment both professionally and personally. His decisive performance against a respected veteran like Chandler represents a significant milestone in his fighting career, while the proposal added an unexpected emotional dimension to the evening's proceedings.
