Vineland Crash Kills Pennsylvania Man After Tesla Crosses Median

VINELAND — A Pennsylvania man was killed and two other people were injured after a Tesla crossed the median on Route 55 and collided with an SUV in Vineland, according to New Jersey State Police.

The crash occurred at about 8:31 a.m. Saturday near milepost 34.6.

State Police said a Tesla was traveling south on Route 55 when the driver lost control, ran off the left side of the highway and entered the grass median.

The Tesla struck a tree before continuing into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a Chevrolet SUV, according to police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Phillip Eastman, 68, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

A passenger in Eastman's SUV and the driver of the Tesla suffered moderate injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment, State Police said.

Authorities have not publicly identified the injured drivers or passenger.

State Police also have not said what caused the Tesla driver to lose control before crossing the median.

The crash remains under investigation.
