Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz spent time with his godfathers Elton John and David Furnish during a vacation near Nice, France, on Saturday, August 1, according to Us Weekly. The 27-year-old and Peltz were photographed aboard the couple's yacht, marking a reunion amid ongoing tensions with Brooklyn's parents.
John, 79, and Furnish, 63, were designated as Brooklyn's godfathers by his parents Victoria and David Beckham, while actress Elizabeth Hurley serves as his godmother. The two couples were captured sitting together at a table on the yacht before disembarking for sightseeing activities.
Brooklyn dressed casually for the outing in a white T-shirt, denim shorts, and a cream-colored baseball cap while holding Peltz's hand. The model and actress wore a white lace minidress paired with nude kitten heels, completing her look with sunglasses and a shoulder bag.
The vacation occurred while David, 51, and Victoria, 52, spent the week on the small Spanish island Formentera with their three other children—sons Romeo and Cruz Beckham and daughter Harper Beckham—as well as Romeo's girlfriend Kim Turnbull, according to Us Weekly. Neither John nor Furnish have publicly addressed Brooklyn's estrangement from his parents.
The family divide became increasingly apparent this summer when Brooklyn missed two significant family events. He was absent from his father David's Hollywood Walk of Fame star induction ceremony in June despite residing nearby, and later skipped his sister Harper's 15th birthday party in July.
Brooklyn made his grievances public in January when he released a statement criticizing his parents. In the statement, he alleged that "Brand Beckham comes first" within the family structure.
"Family 'love' is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it's at the expense of our professional obligations," Brooklyn wrote in the January statement, as reported by Us Weekly. "We've gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show 'our perfect family!' But the one time my wife asked for my mum's support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused."
In his statement, Brooklyn disputed what he characterized as a "completely backwards" narrative suggesting Peltz controls him. Instead, he claimed the opposite dynamic existed within his family of origin.
"I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life," he stated, according to Us Weekly. "I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family."
David and Victoria have offered limited public responses to their son's allegations. During an April interview on NBC's Today, Victoria addressed what the interviewer described as "a very public and challenging year" for the family.
"Myself and David, we're so close," Victoria said, according to Us Weekly. "And we have incredible people around us. We're very close to my parents and David's parents, and we support each other through everything that we do."
David declined to discuss the matter when questioned by a Variety reporter in June about the family situation.
"To be honest, I'm sorry to stop you there, but that's a private matter," David said, as reported by Us Weekly. "That's the one thing that I don't want to talk about."
