Grand Haven Township Family of Eight Dead in Murder-Suicide

Kristopher Karolkiewicz allegedly shot and killed his wife, Amanda "Mandy" Karolkiewicz, along with their six children on July 24 before setting fire to the family home and fatally shooting himself.

The Detroit News independently verified a Reddit account linked to Mandy through matching details about marriage dates, children, ages, employment, and residence. The account painted a picture of a marriage marked by infidelity and emotional turmoil.

In a 2024 post under the username "MandyK1179," the account detailed allegations of an extramarital affair. "He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again -- the same age I was when I was the intern," the post stated, according to TMZ.com.

The same post described a period of profound personal struggle following the discovery. "After about a year of self-loathing, I remember crying and looking at myself in the mirror and realizing how (expletive) it was that I was the one who was living so miserably because of what he did. I finally realized that I had been the only person who has ever showed up for myself my whole entire life," TMZ.com reported the post as saying.

Despite the marital difficulties, the account indicated that Mandy remained in the relationship primarily for the sake of their children. "I kept telling myself, 'I love my kids more than I hate my husband right now.' They have no idea -- I faked it 'till we made it. We're in a much better place 4.5 years out, but it's still a fight to stay in a healthy place," the post explained, according to TMZ.com.

Writing in the "As One After Infidelity" subreddit, the account acknowledged overlooking warning signs and described efforts to address the relationship's problems through therapy and marriage counseling. One particularly disturbing passage described a physical confrontation after discovering what was characterized as an "emotional" affair. "He towers over me and destroyed me mentally. It felt like I was being assaulted and neede," the post stated, according to TMZ.com.
