The West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park With George has confirmed that Ariana Grande will no longer participate in the production, following the singer's decision to withdraw from public-facing work after her current tour concludes.

The production announced Grande's departure via its official X account on Sunday, August 2, expressing support for the performer's choice. The statement acknowledged the difficulty of her decision while confirming the show would proceed as scheduled.

"Following this evening's announcement from Ariana Grande's team, we can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George," the production stated. "We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support."

The musical, scheduled to open at the Barbican in summer 2027, will move forward with replacement casting to be revealed at a later date. Grande had been set to perform alongside Jonathan Bailey, her costar from Wicked, in the revival of the acclaimed Sondheim work.

Earlier on Sunday, Grande's representative confirmed to People that the 33-year-old performer would be "taking a step back from visibility" following the completion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour. The representative characterized the decision as a necessary respite from the demands of public life.

"Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour," the representative told People. "She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily."

The representative described the break as a "much-deserved" pause from professional obligations and public appearances, citing "endless, ongoing public scrutiny" as a contributing factor to the decision.

The announcement follows the Friday, July 3 release of Grande's "Petal" music video, which prompted widespread online discussion regarding her physical appearance. Social media users expressed concern about the singer's health, with some speculating about potential medical issues.

A source close to the performer told People that Grande "performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night," pointing to her continued tour performances as evidence of her well-being. The singer has not personally addressed the recent speculation or her decision to step back from public life.

"This tour has been a beautiful experience for her," Grande's representative told People. "She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much."
