Mark Hamill offered a tongue-in-cheek explanation for his absence from one of the entertainment industry's most anticipated weddings of the year.
The Star Wars actor addressed his non-attendance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding with characteristic humor on Sunday, July 5. "Congratulations to the newlyweds!" the 74-year-old wrote via Instagram alongside the couple's engagement photo, according to Us Weekly. "I declined to attend the wedding for a variety of personal reasons, but mainly because I wasn't invited."
Swift and Kelce, both 36, married at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, before approximately 1,000 guests. The ceremony drew a constellation of entertainment industry luminaries, including Bradley Cooper, Reese Witherspoon, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Paul Rudd, and Jennifer Lopez.
Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony. Rather than traditional wedding parties, the couple chose their brothers to stand beside them. Jason Kelce served as best man, while Austin Swift took on the role of "man of honor."
The couple exchanged vows wearing custom looks created by Christian Dior Haute Couture and designed by creative director Jonathan Anderson. Both wore custom Christian Louboutin shoes to complete their wedding attire.
Hamill was not alone in acknowledging his absence from the exclusive guest list. Amy Schumer shared a photo of herself marrying Michael Cera in their comedy series, Life & Beth, via Instagram with the caption, "OK so why weren't we allowed in?"
A source told Us Weekly that Blake Lively was not invited amid a reported rift in her friendship with Swift. "Blake understands why she wouldn't be invited and that it would be a media frenzy," the insider told Us Weekly. "She also understands that she and Taylor don't have the same level of friendship they once had. She isn't upset about not being invited, but of course, she would love to be there to support her and Travis."
The source added that Lively, 38, and Swift "haven't been in touch in several months, and their last correspondence was only a few casual texts back and forth. That is the extent of their friendship," according to Us Weekly.
Swift and Kelce began dating in the summer of 2023 and announced their engagement in August 2025.
Hamill himself has maintained a lasting marriage to Marilou York since 1978. The couple shares three children: sons Nathan, 47, and Griffin, 43, and daughter Chelsea, 37.
In a Mother's Day tribute on May 10, Hamill wrote via Instagram: "Wishing ALL moms around the world a #HappyMothersDay, & especially to the love of my life: Marilou York. Easily 'the best decision I ever made.' ❤️ 🙏 from Nathan, Griffin, Chelsea & me."
