Matthew Lillard has publicly expressed regret over his decision to return to the 'Scream' franchise for 'Scream 7' following the firing of Melissa Barrera. The actor made the remarks during a Q&A session at a 30th anniversary screening of 'Scream,' according to TMZ.com.
Lillard, who is a father of queer children, noted that he finds it easy to advocate for transgender people and the LGBTQ community. However, he admitted to feeling 'embarrassed' about his involvement in the upcoming sequel after Barrera was dismissed from the franchise due to her pro-Palestine stance.
He told the crowd, "I feel bad about that. I feel shame about that. Because in that moment I was so excited to go back." He continued, "I didn't really think about Melissa and the journey. And I didn't say no."
Lillard also stated that Barrera was on 'the right side of history' for speaking out. He lamented that the world did not support her in the same way people have backed Macklemore after he was similarly removed from Ed Sheeran's tour.
