Ne-Yo Denies Promoter's Claims in Sri Lanka Concert Dispute

Representatives for R&B artist Ne-Yo have issued a forceful denial of allegations that he improperly canceled a concert in Sri Lanka and retained hundreds of thousands of dollars in advance payments.

The dispute centers on a December performance scheduled for Colombo that never materialized, with promoter Brown Boy Presents seeking the return of $284,460 plus additional damages through legal action.

"The claims made by Brown Boy Presents are categorically fraudulent and misleading," a spokesperson for Ne-Yo told TMZ.com. "Brown Boy Presents isn't owed money by NE-YO—the promoter owes NE-YO answers regarding its misconduct."

According to the singer's team, the contract required Brown Boy Presents to provide full payment before the performance and arrange roundtrip travel for Ne-Yo and his accompanying personnel. The representative stated that the promoter failed to satisfy either requirement despite receiving multiple opportunities to remedy the situation.

Ne-Yo's camp maintains that it became evident the promoter lacked sufficient financial resources to fulfill its contractual duties, forcing the artist to withdraw from the engagement.

Brown Boy Presents presents a different version of events in its lawsuit. The company claims it paid at least $284,460 toward a $325,000 performance guarantee but encountered problems when Ne-Yo's representatives altered travel arrangements for his crew.

The promoter alleges that airfare expenses escalated dramatically during negotiations. An initial quote for five members of Ne-Yo's party came in around $57,000, according to the lawsuit, before a revised travel package increased to nearly $93,000.

Brown Boy Presents asserts that Ne-Yo's team ultimately canceled the show while retaining the money already transferred, even though the artist later made public statements suggesting he remained interested in performing in Sri Lanka.

The promoter further alleges that Ne-Yo's representatives subsequently contacted one of its Sri Lankan ticketing partners about organizing another performance, this time excluding Brown Boy Presents from the arrangement entirely.

The lawsuit seeks recovery of the $284,460-plus payment along with additional damages. Neither party has indicated whether settlement discussions are underway.
