Too $hort and Diplo Debut 'Money Calling' in San Francisco

Too $hort is moving into electronic dance music, and Diplo is the collaborator guiding the transition. The legendary rapper debuted a new track, "Money Calling," on Sunday at Diplo's Run Club event in San Francisco, where a crowd of 20,000 gathered to run with the DJ, according to TMZ.com.

The song, which also features Nigerian rapper and singer Kah-Lo, is set to appear on Diplo's upcoming album. Sources close to Too $hort told TMZ.com that the rapper has long been a fan of EDM and that Diplo has spent years mentoring him as he worked to establish a presence in electronic music. The two have performed together at Stagecoach over the years, but Diplo was holding out for the right record to formalize the crossover, which he found with Kah-Lo.

Too $hort described the partnership as a natural fit. "I've been rocking with Diplo for a few years now doing some shows and getting to know him and I knew that when he and I actually cooked up some music, we will come up with something crazy and that's what we got here with Money Calling," he told TMZ.com.

The rapper is not abandoning hip-hop, according to sources who spoke with TMZ.com, but is enthusiastic about the new direction. He is scheduled to headline Escape, a two-day EDM festival in San Bernardino, on Halloween, where he will appear alongside some of electronic music's most prominent acts and continue to showcase his crossover material.

The track is already generating significant buzz, and the chemistry between Diplo and Too $hort has raised the possibility of a full collaborative album. For now, the Halloween set in San Bernardino will offer the next opportunity to hear the new sound.
