Nicki Minaj's Ex-Assistant Seeks Private Texts in Battery Suit

Nicki Minaj's former assistant, Brandon Garrett, is seeking access to the rapper's private text messages as part of his ongoing battery lawsuit against her, according to court documents reported by TMZ.com. Minaj is contesting the request in court.

Garrett has asked Minaj to produce messages exchanged with third parties concerning him and his employment between January 2024 and April 2024, according to the documents. He also requested all messages she sent regarding the alleged assault he says occurred backstage at one of her concerts in April.

Minaj maintains that she does not possess any messages about the alleged incident. She has argued that some of the other requests are excessive and has refused to turn over the items, per the court documents.

Garrett filed the lawsuit against Minaj in 2025, as TMZ.com first reported. He claims he worked for the rapper in 2024 and that the dispute unfolded at one of her shows in Detroit.

According to Garrett's account, he was summoned to a dressing room where Minaj was upset. He alleges she told him, "Are you f***ing crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f***ing mind and if my husband were here, he would knock out your f***ing teeth."

Garrett further claims Minaj continued, saying, "You're a dead man walking. You just f***ed up your whole life and you will never be anyone; I'll make sure of it."

In the filing, Garrett alleges that Minaj struck him in the face, causing injuries and emotional distress. Minaj's former lawyer denied the allegations, describing them as "false and frivolous."

Beyond the litigation, Minaj has remained active in public life, making appearances on behalf of President Trump.
