State Representative Randy Fine has been projected as the winner of the Republican Primary for Florida's 6th Congressional District, securing the nomination with a commanding margin over a field that included social media personality Dan Bilzerian.
According to local reports, Fine captured nearly 60 percent of the vote, totaling more than 44,000 ballots. Bilzerian finished in second place with 19 percent of the vote, receiving more than 14,000 votes in his first foray into electoral politics.
The outcome marks the end of an unconventional campaign by Bilzerian, who previously told TMZ.com he did not actually want to serve in Congress and was only running because he was dissatisfied with the performance of current elected officials.
Fine's primary victory comes amid recent controversy involving an incident at a constituent's home. A woman reported to law enforcement that a man was going through her mail on her porch while she monitored the situation remotely through her Ring camera. The homeowner was not present at the time and later identified the individual as Fine, the Florida Congressman.
Police determined that Fine did not appear to have taken anything from the mailbox. The homeowner indicated she only wished to alert law enforcement to the incident and did not intend to pursue criminal charges.
The Democratic Primary winner who will face Fine in the general election has not yet been officially called. Fine will advance to represent the Republican Party in the November contest for the congressional seat representing Florida's 6th District.
