St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red faces the possibility of a $5 million default judgment in a lawsuit filed by Nicole Barnes, the grandmother of one of the artist's children, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.
Barnes alleges the rapper shared her home address on social media and encouraged her substantial online following to commit violent acts. According to the legal filing, Sexyy Red specifically asked her audience to "kick the door in" and conduct acts of violence at Barnes's residence.
The lawsuit, originally filed in March 2025, claims Barnes was forced to leave her home due to the immediate danger created by the rapper's actions. Barnes now seeks a default judgment after Sexyy Red allegedly failed to respond to the legal proceedings despite being properly served.
According to the complaint, Barnes attempted standard methods of serving legal documents to the rapper but encountered difficulties. She subsequently obtained permission to serve Sexyy Red through publication in a newspaper, a method courts allow when traditional service proves unsuccessful.
The rapper, who maintains 5 million followers on Instagram, has two children: a 4-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter. Barnes is the grandmother of one of these children, though the specific relationship was not detailed in the court documents.
Barnes contends that despite completing service through publication, Sexyy Red has not filed any response to the lawsuit. When a defendant fails to respond to a lawsuit after proper service, courts may grant a default judgment, allowing the plaintiff to win without a trial.
The motion for default judgment requests $5 million in damages. A judge has not yet ruled on the request, and the case remains pending as of Wednesday, September 10, 2026.
