Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a permanent restraining order against a man who allegedly attempted to enter her Los Angeles home on multiple occasions, according to court records obtained by TMZ.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ordered 31-year-old William Applegate to stay 100 yards away from the singer, her sister Sarah, and Sarah's boyfriend, George, for the next five years. The ruling was issued on June 17, 2026.
William Applegate testified at the hearing in opposition to Carpenter's request for the restraining order, but his testimony failed to persuade the court to deny the protective measure.
According to court filings, the incidents began on May 23 when Applegate allegedly came to Carpenter's residence and attempted to enter through the front door. Carpenter's legal team characterized the man's actions as "calculated and aggressive," TMZ reported. Evidence presented to the court included a screenshot from a Ring camera showing Applegate at her front door.
Applegate was arrested on May 23, but Carpenter alleged that he returned to her home approximately 24 hours later. The singer claimed he appeared at her residence again the following day, prompting another police response.
In his defense, Applegate claimed that Carpenter did not genuinely want the restraining order and suggested it was part of a conspiracy orchestrated by individuals in her circle, TMZ reported.
The court's decision to issue a five-year protective order provides legal protection for Carpenter and her family members named in the filing. Violation of the restraining order could result in criminal charges against Applegate.
The case underscores security concerns that can arise for public figures in the Los Angeles area, where celebrity residences sometimes become targets for unwanted intrusions. The permanent nature of the restraining order reflects the court's assessment of the situation and the need for ongoing protection.
