Tony Romo Arrested for OWI in Wisconsin

Newly released body camera footage reveals the moments leading up to former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin last week.

The video, obtained by TMZ, shows Romo explaining to the officer that he had departed from a golf tournament and was en route to see his grandparents when he was stopped on July 23. The former quarterback was driving a Jeep at the time of the traffic stop.

According to the footage, the officer returned to Romo's vehicle and instructed him to exit the Jeep to perform field sobriety tests. Romo repeatedly requested to contact his attorney before stepping out of the vehicle. The officer denied the request and ordered him to exit. Romo eventually complied and stood outside the Jeep to complete the sobriety exercises.

Law enforcement officials reported that Romo performed poorly during the field sobriety tests, leading to his arrest on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

Court records indicate Romo received an additional citation for refusing to take an intoxication test following his arrest. This refusal places his driving privileges at significant risk. Romo has requested a hearing to contest the citation, though he faces the possibility of losing his license for a year.

The arrest occurred after Romo participated in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship. Following the incident, he withdrew from a separate golf tournament in Texas that he has regularly attended in previous years.

The case remains pending as Romo prepares to challenge the citation in court.
