President Donald Trump's executive assistant Natalie Harp operated inside the White House for more than a year without obtaining a security clearance, despite her constant proximity to the president and access to sensitive communications, according to a report from MS NOW.
Harp failed to complete the necessary paperwork to initiate her formal background investigation for over a year, MS NOW reported, a delay that prompted concerns among White House lawyers and security officials. The situation escalated to the point where Trump personally intervened, according to the outlet.
The executive assistant eventually submitted the required paperwork and received her clearance in recent months, the report states.
The revelation carries particular significance given Harp's role within the administration. She maintains a desk just outside the Oval Office and possesses access to Trump's Truth Social account, placing her at the center of presidential communications and daily operations.
Harp has become a near-constant presence alongside the president, traveling extensively with Trump and joining a select group that accompanied him during a secret aircraft change in Turkey amid a security threat, TMZ previously reported.
Her relationship with the president has drawn scrutiny this week. Preston Harp, her estranged brother, told CNN he believes her devotion to Trump constitutes an "unhealthy obsession."
TMZ has also reported on intensely personal letters Harp has written to Trump over the years. In one correspondence, she apologized for disappointing him and described prioritizing her work for the president above eating and sleeping.
The extended period during which Harp worked without clearance raises questions about White House security protocols, particularly for staff members with such intimate access to the president and his communications channels.
