Atlantic City Swears In About 60 Crossing Guards Ahead of New School Year

ATLANTIC CITY — About 60 crossing guards have been sworn in to help Atlantic City students safely make their way to and from school during the upcoming academic year.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. joined city public safety officials for a Friday August 14th ceremony welcoming the crossing guards ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

The guards will be stationed at intersections and school zones throughout Atlantic City.

Many are returning from previous school years, while others will be working as crossing guards in the city for the first time.

“Crossing Guards play a critical role in protecting our children, giving peace of mind to parents, guardians, educators, and the entire Atlantic City community,” Small said. “We are grateful to every returning Guard for their continued service and proud to welcome our new Guards as they help ensure our youth get to and from school safely each day.”

Small was joined at the ceremony by Public Safety Director Sean Riggin, Deputy Chief Alexus Zeilinger, Capt. Frank Timek, Lt. Wil Santiago and Sgt. Ivan Lopez.

Riggin said the guards provide an important layer of safety for students at the beginning and end of each school day.

“Our Crossing Guards help create a safe start and end to the school day for Atlantic City students,” Riggin said. “Their professionalism, attentiveness, and commitment to our community make a meaningful difference. We wish them a safe and successful school year.”

The crossing guards will begin their duties as students return for the new school year.
