Barker and Kardashian Reveal Miscarriage in Documentary

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have opened up about a deeply personal loss, revealing in the drummer's forthcoming documentary that they experienced a miscarriage before the birth of their son Rocky. The disclosure came during the premiere of Travis Barker: Love Is Louder Than Fear at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, June 13.

The couple, who began dating in 2021, learned they were expecting a daughter six months into their relationship. They had chosen the name Tulip for their baby girl. However, at a three-month doctor's appointment, Kardashian, 47, received devastating news that their baby no longer had a heartbeat.

"When we lost the baby, we were devastated," Kardashian said in the documentary, which is scheduled to premiere August 13 on Hulu. "We cried for days."

The documentary details the couple's subsequent fertility journey, which included five IVF attempts over an eight-month period. The intensive treatment regimen ultimately proved unsuccessful, leading Kardashian and Barker, 50, to pause their efforts. That decision, the couple revealed, preceded their natural conception of son Rocky, who is now 22 months old.

Kardashian and Barker welcomed Rocky in November 2023, expanding their blended family. Kardashian shares three children with ex Scott Disick: Mason, 16, Penelope, 13, and Reign, 11. Barker has two children with ex-wife Shanna Moakler: son Landon, 22, and daughter Alabama, 20. He also serves as a father figure to Moakler's daughter Atiana, 27, whom she shares with Oscar De La Hoya.

The couple married in 2022 and subsequently documented their fertility struggles on Hulu's The Kardashians. The physical and emotional toll of IVF treatments eventually led Kardashian to reconsider the process. The side effects from the hormonal treatments proved particularly challenging, affecting both her physical health and mental wellbeing.

"I would love a baby more than anything, but I just really believe in what God has in store for us. If that's a baby, then I believe that it will happen," Kardashian said on a May 2023 episode of The Kardashians.

Kardashian also addressed misconceptions about egg freezing during the series, explaining that the process does not guarantee future success. She recalled feeling pressure to freeze her eggs but noted that most of her frozen eggs did not survive the thawing process, and none developed into viable embryos.

"My health is still impacted because it's hormones. And also mentally, it definitely took a toll. So I think just being happy is most important and being a good parent to my kids," she noted at the time. "We are just embracing that whatever's meant to be will be."

Kardashian's pregnancy with Rocky was not without complications. Before giving birth, she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. While the procedure was successful, the experience proved frightening for the expectant mother.

"That experience opened my eyes to a whole new world of pregnancy that I didn't know about in the past," she told Vogue in October 2023, one month before Rocky's arrival. "After, I learned that insurance typically only covers two ultrasounds when you're pregnant, I had no idea. I've always been lucky enough to do more than what insurance covers, and it's one of those ultrasounds that saved my baby's life."

Kardashian concluded her reflection by expressing newfound peace about the pregnancy. "I've finally been able to let go of the fear and worry that everybody else put in us because of this pregnancy. I'm ready to go in, have the baby, and have the experience we're meant to have."
