CAPE MAY — Residents and visitors will have a chance to celebrate the quieter days of September on two wheels when Cape May holds its Locals’ Summer Bike Ride next month.
The free community event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 16, and will feature a slow-paced, approximately three-mile ride through the city.
The ride will begin at the Cape May Community Center at 110 Ocean St. Registration opens at 5 p.m., with cyclists scheduled to depart at 5:30 p.m.
“September is one of the best times of the year to get outside and enjoy everything Cape May has to offer,” Councilmember Steve Bodnar said. “The Locals’ Summer Bike Ride is a great way to bring neighbors, families, and friends together for an evening of recreation and community.”
The event is intended to celebrate what Shore residents commonly call “Local Summer,” the period following the peak summer tourism season when crowds typically diminish but warm weather and outdoor activities continue.
The city describes the ride as a family-friendly event, although experienced riders are suggested because participants will be traveling together as a group.
Helmets are required for all riders.
There is no charge to participate, and cyclists should bring their own bicycles and helmets.
If weather forces the Sept. 16 ride to be postponed, the city has scheduled a rain date for Thursday, Sept. 17.
Additional information is available through the City of Cape May.
