Ed Kelce is expressing his excitement as his son Travis Kelce prepares to marry Taylor Swift in what has been dubbed the celebrity wedding of the year.
"I am super excited," Ed Kelce said of the upcoming nuptials during an interview with Fox 29 Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 24. "She is a sweetheart that is truly the girl next door, just like Kylie," he added, drawing a comparison to his eldest son Jason Kelce's wife, Kylie Kelce.
The 75-year-old father made the comments while attending Jason's annual Team 62 Fundraiser in Sea City Isle, New Jersey, where both Kelce family members spoke with reporters about the anticipated wedding.
Jason Kelce also shared his enthusiasm for his younger brother's marriage. "Very excited for my brother. I'm very happy for both of them. I'm looking forward to celebrating with them. It's a good year right now," the former Philadelphia Eagles center said. When asked whether he had received an invitation, Jason deflected with humor, stating, "I plead the fifth."
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, both 36 years old, announced their engagement in August 2025. The couple is rumored to be planning their wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City over the July 4 weekend, with speculation centering on Saturday, July 3.
According to reporting by The New York Times on Wednesday, a permit was filed with New York City to close streets around the arena from July 2 to July 4 for an event scheduled for Saturday, July 3. The newspaper also reported that several of Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates have reserved hotel rooms at the nearby Marriott Marquis in Times Square for that weekend, further fueling speculation about the wedding location and date.
Ed Kelce, who shares Jason and Travis with ex-wife Donna Kelce, previously disclosed details about the engagement timeline. Speaking to ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland last August, he revealed that Travis proposed approximately two weeks before the couple made their public announcement.
"Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago," Ed Kelce told News 5 Cleveland, speaking to Us Weekly. "He was going to put it off till this week... but he was going to put her off till this week to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big, special event."
Ed recounted advising his son that the location mattered less than the gesture itself. "And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you," he said, speaking to Us Weekly.
The proposal took place at Travis Kelce's home in Lee's Summit, Missouri, in a serene garden setting. "He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'Let's go out and have a glass of wine.'... They got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed Kelce told Us Weekly. "They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."
The wedding, if it proceeds as rumored over the Independence Day weekend, would mark a significant moment for both the entertainment and sports worlds, bringing together one of music's biggest stars with one of professional football's most prominent players.
