Jennifer Lopez appeared to make a subtle dig at ex-husband Marc Anthony while discussing the challenges of raising their twins, Emme and Max, during a candid podcast interview.
The actress, 56, reflected on her parenting journey during the Monday, June 15, episode of the "Smartless" podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. Lopez celebrated a significant milestone as both of her children, now 18, received college acceptances and scholarships.
"It's crazy. And now I can really look at my life, appreciate it for what it is and what I've created for myself and be really happy," Lopez said during the episode. "And both my kids got into all their colleges and they both got scholarships and they're going where they want to go."
The Office Romance actress then praised herself for being present throughout Max and Emme's upbringing, while strongly implying she shouldered the majority of parental responsibilities without substantial support from their father.
"I was like, 'You did that s*** all by yourself.' That's great. Like, 'You had very little help,' you know?" she continued.
Us Weekly has reached out to Anthony's spokesperson for comment regarding Lopez's remarks.
Lopez and Anthony married in 2004 and welcomed their twins four years later. The couple announced their separation in 2011 after seven years of marriage, finalizing their divorce three years later in 2014.
"We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters," the pair told Us Weekly in a joint statement at the time of their separation. "It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
Anthony, a Latin music icon, has six children from multiple relationships. In addition to Max and Emme, he shares daughter Arianna and son Chase with ex-girlfriend Debbie Rosado, and sons Cristian and Ryan with ex-wife Dayanara Torres. Anthony and his current wife, Nadia Ferreira, welcomed their son Marco in June 2023 and are currently expecting their second child together.
Despite the apparent tension suggested by Lopez's recent comments, the former couple has publicly maintained an amicable coparenting relationship over the years. The actress's latest remarks, however, paint a different picture of the division of parental labor during their children's formative years.
As Max and Emme prepare to embark on their college journeys with scholarship support, Lopez's comments underscore the pride she takes in their achievements while simultaneously highlighting what she perceives as her predominantly solo effort in raising them to this milestone.
