Margaret Qualley returned to work on a New Jersey film set Wednesday, marking her first public appearance since reports emerged of her separation from husband Jack Antonoff.
The 31-year-old actress was photographed filming scenes for a remake of the 1981 horror film Possession in New Jersey on Wednesday, July 22, according to People. Qualley wore a black long-sleeved, button-up shirt paired with a dark knee-length skirt, leggings, and ballet slippers while performing dramatic scenes for the camera.
The remake reunites Smile writer-director Parker Finn with producer Robert Pattinson to reimagine filmmaker Andrzej Żuławski's supernatural thriller. The original film starred Isabelle Adjani as a spy's wife who encounters unexplainable terrors after requesting a divorce. Joining Qualley in the new adaptation are Callum Turner, Paul Dano, and Diego Calva.
The on-set sighting comes two weeks after reports surfaced regarding Qualley's separation from Antonoff, 42, following three years of marriage. Speculation about their relationship status intensified when the music producer attended Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3 accompanied by his sister, Rachel Antonoff, rather than his wife.
On July 9, Us Weekly reported through an exclusive source that the couple had split recently but had been experiencing difficulties for several years. The source indicated that Qualley initiated the separation, with demanding schedules and geographic distance contributing to the decision alongside other factors.
"They were still trying to work on the marriage a few months ago, but it ultimately wasn't working. At some point, the rose-colored glasses came off for Margaret, and she felt she needed to take a step back," a source told Us Weekly.
The same source revealed that Antonoff had communicated to friends about challenges within the marriage, though the couple has not yet filed for divorce.
Qualley's representative addressed the situation on July 10, refuting speculation about the reasons behind the separation. "The narratives running in the press about Margaret and Jack are categorically untrue," her representative told Us Weekly. "There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship. They have deep love and care for one another."
The representative emphasized privacy concerns, stating that sources commenting to media outlets do not personally know the couple and requesting respect for their privacy during this period.
Antonoff and Qualley were first photographed together in August 2021. The couple married in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, in August 2023 at a ceremony attended by notable guests including Swift, 36, Lana Del Rey, Zoë Kravitz, and Qualley's mother, Andie MacDowell.
Before her relationship with Antonoff, Qualley dated comedian Pete Davidson in 2019 and Shia LaBeouf in 2020. Antonoff previously maintained a relationship with Girls creator Lena Dunham for more than five years before their separation in late 2017.
Qualley's recent work includes her performance in The Substance, and she now returns to the horror genre with the Possession remake filming in New Jersey.
