Reality Star's Ex-Husband Seeks Restraining Order

Tate Paul filed a motion for a temporary restraining order against his ex-wife Taylor Frankie Paul in a Utah court on Tuesday, June 30, according to documents viewed by Us Weekly. The filing marks a significant development in the ongoing legal matters surrounding the reality television star.

Tate Paul, 32, has requested a hearing on the matter. According to People, the restraining order was filed against Taylor Frankie Paul, 32, who stars in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Hulu. The former couple was married from 2016 to 2022 and share two children: daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6.

In addition to the restraining order, Tate Paul filed a petition to modify the terms of their divorce and custody agreement. TMZ reported that he is requesting sole custody of both children. Representatives for both parties have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Taylor Frankie Paul rose to prominence through the MomTok community on TikTok, which gained widespread attention in 2020. Her public profile intensified in 2022 when she disclosed her involvement in what she termed "soft swinging" with other people's partners and announced her divorce from Tate Paul.

The reality star has maintained that she and her ex-husband shared a cooperative relationship. "I just respect his privacy a lot, and I know that's what he likes," Taylor Frankie Paul told Us Weekly in March. "But he and I have always been really good friends and [have a] very healthy coparenting relationship."

Much of Taylor Frankie Paul's storyline on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has focused on her relationship with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. The former couple has been engaged in an ongoing custody dispute over their 2-year-old son, Ever, following multiple domestic violence incidents and allegations.

Earlier this year, Mortensen alleged that Taylor Frankie Paul had been physically violent with him during a February incident. According to documents obtained by TMZ at the time, Mortensen claimed that Paul had allegedly choked him and shoved him into a window. Paul denied the allegations of child abuse.

Mortensen was subsequently granted temporary custody of Ever. Taylor Frankie Paul then filed for a protective order against Mortensen, claiming that he assaulted her in his truck. A judge granted the order and ruled that the exes must stay at least 100 feet away from each other.

Earlier this month, a judge ruled that Taylor Frankie Paul no longer required supervised visitation of Ever and that she can have her son on alternative weekends and one midweek day. The Bluffdale Police Department confirmed to Us Weekly earlier this week that Mortensen called the police with questions about the exes' protective order amid their ongoing custody battle. The case was sent to the District Attorney's office, which will determine if a violation occurred. The exes' next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8.

In March, TMZ released previously unseen footage from a 2023 domestic dispute between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen. The footage showed Taylor Frankie Paul throwing chairs before one struck her and Tate Paul's daughter.

Tate Paul has not publicly addressed his ex-wife's rise to prominence as a reality television personality in the years since their divorce. The restraining order filing represents his first known legal action against Taylor Frankie Paul since their marriage ended.
