Reality Star's Son Jailed in Georgia Since May

Bryson Bryant, the son of former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member NeNe Leakes, has been incarcerated in a Georgia jail since May 1, according to jail records obtained by TMZ on Friday, June 19. The 31-year-old faces charges for allegedly violating the terms of his probation and failing to pay child support, with bail set at $27,000.

The probation violation stems from Bryant's July 2023 arrest in Lawrenceville, Georgia, when authorities found him in possession of fentanyl. According to documents previously obtained by Us Weekly, Bryant was booked on multiple charges at that time, including violating probation, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, loitering and prowling, and providing false information to law enforcement. Authorities reported that Bryant allegedly identified himself to police as his younger half-brother, Brentt Leakes.

As part of a plea agreement, the drug charge was dismissed. However, Bryant received a 12-month probation sentence with specific conditions: payment of a $500 fine, completion of 40 hours of community service, and submission to random drug testing. Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that Bryant failed to fulfill any of these probation requirements, leading to his current incarceration.

The situation represents a continuation of legal challenges for Bryant, who has three children and a wife. His mother has previously addressed his struggles publicly, acknowledging the difficult position families face when dealing with addiction.

During a July 2023 episode of the podcast Reality With the King, Leakes, 58, discussed her son's circumstances with host Carlos King. She characterized Bryant as someone who "needs rehabilitation" and "a lot of counseling," explaining that he has battled addiction for years despite multiple rehabilitation attempts and subsequent relapses.

"He has an addiction. He's been struggling with it for years," Leakes stated during the podcast appearance. "As a mom, just to watch it is — my hands are tied. You know, he's 31 years old, he's an adult. He has three children, three beautiful children who I adore. He has a wife. [There's] not much that I can do."

Leakes emphasized that recovery requires personal commitment from the individual struggling with addiction, rather than external pressure from family members. She revealed that despite significant financial investment in treatment programs, she learned through counseling that lasting change must originate from the individual's own readiness.

"I have spent so much money to get Bryson where he needs to be, but every time I sent him off, I said, 'You are giving your ass up and we are sending you off.' But I learned through counseling myself that he has to say, 'I am ready to go,' not me making him go," she explained. "So until Bryson is ready to make a change, there's nothing I can do."

Representatives for NeNe Leakes have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding Bryant's current legal situation. The case highlights ongoing challenges surrounding probation compliance and substance abuse treatment in the Georgia criminal justice system.
