Former Chicago Bulls champion Ron Harper remains in disbelief over his son Dylan Harper's exceptional first season in professional basketball, as the younger Harper helped propel the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA Finals in a breakout rookie campaign.

"Is Dylan Harper really my son?! It's really awesome and a great time to see him play," Ron Harper told TMZ Sports. "The experience that he has and seeing where he's come from growing up. It's like most of the time I sit at the game and be like, 'That's my son.' I'm shocked."

The former Bulls star elaborated on his surprise at Dylan's performance level, noting that while parents hope their children will succeed, the reality has surpassed his projections.

"Because you know, you expect your kids to be good, but you don't expect them to be overachievers, like he's really overachieving now. He's showing me up right now," Harper told TMZ Sports.

The acknowledgment carries particular weight given Ron Harper's decorated career, which includes five championship rings earned during his time in the league.

While the Spurs ultimately fell short against the New York Knicks in the championship series, Ron Harper characterized the season as far from disappointing for the young franchise. "[The NBA Finals are] definitely a learning experience. They had a very young basketball team, a young coaching staff -- definitely a learning experience. I think that they achieved the goal that they had this past season. And now the goal is a little bit higher," Harper told TMZ Sports.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, the veteran champion outlined a straightforward mandate for the Spurs organization: accelerate the maturation process, elevate performance standards, and prepare for intensified opposition now that the team has announced itself as a legitimate contender.

The increased attention will manifest throughout the regular season schedule, according to Harper, who noted that opponents will approach every matchup with heightened intensity.

"Everybody's going to be trying to gun for them for 82 games now," Harper told TMZ Sports.
