Stolen Mercedes Causes Fatal Head-On Crash in Mays Landing

MAYS LANDING - Two people lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision in Mays Landing on Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, when a stolen Mercedes G-Wagon SUV crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming sedan, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

The fatal crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. where Route 50 meets Third Street. Investigators say the Mercedes SUV was heading southbound when it suddenly veered across the roadway into the path of northbound traffic.

The force of the impact launched both vehicles airborne. The sedan careened into a nearby gas station before finally stopping, while debris scattered across the intersection.

Police officers arrived within seconds of the collision. Surveillance video from the scene shows officers forcibly removing one suspect from the Mercedes and throwing them to the ground during the arrest.

Four occupants of the stolen vehicle were taken into custody and now face charges. Three of the suspects are juveniles, investigators confirmed. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the victims or those arrested, nor have they specified the exact charges being filed.

A multi-agency investigation is now underway, with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office working alongside the Hamilton Township Police Department and the New Jersey Attorney General's Office to piece together the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.

The tragedy marks another sobering reminder of the dangers posed by stolen vehicles on our roadways. As investigators continue their work, our community mourns the loss of two lives taken far too soon.
