A police pursuit in Joiner, Arkansas earlier this month ended in a harrowing rollover crash that was captured on dashcam footage, showing a young child miraculously escaping without injury after his mother refused to stop for state troopers.
According to law enforcement, 23-year-old Thalia Jones led police on a high-speed chase with her 3-year-old son in the vehicle. The incident unfolded when Jones refused to pull over for Arkansas State Troopers, prompting a pursuit through the area.
The dramatic footage shows officers attempting a precision immobilization technique, commonly known as a P.I.T. maneuver, to end the chase. The maneuver caused Jones' vehicle to veer off the street, travel across grass, cross back over the roadway, and ultimately roll over near a roadside ditch.
With the vehicle resting upside down, Jones opened the door and her young son immediately ran toward the officers. State troopers can be heard on the video reassuring the frightened child, saying, "You're OK. Come. Come right here, baby." A member of law enforcement then held and comforted the toddler in the aftermath of the crash.
The incident, which authorities described as remarkably non-fatal given the circumstances, resulted in serious consequences for Jones. She now faces multiple charges including speeding, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, and child endangerment.
At the crash scene, a trooper confronted Jones about the severity of her actions, stating, "That was the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You could have killed your own child."
