An uncomfortable exchange during Usher's Nashville concert has ignited discussion across social media after the performer asked an audience member to exit the stage when she visibly resisted his intimate performance style.
The incident unfolded Friday, July 24, during The R&B Tour show in Nashville, where the 47-year-old artist brought a female fan onstage for what typically serves as a highlight of his concerts. Fan footage shared on Instagram afterward documented the entire sequence.
Video from the performance shows the shirtless musician serenading the woman before leaning toward her while positioned on a bed prop. As Usher attempted to nuzzle her neck, both figures reclined backward onto the bed, though the fan maintained a noticeably stiff posture throughout.
The singer, whose legal name is Usher Raymond IV, then moved his face closer to the fan's in an attempt at more intimate engagement. The woman remained tight-lipped during their interaction. When Usher lifted his head to make eye contact, he briefly studied her expression before slowly turning toward the audience with a confused look.
"I don't think she wants to be on the stage," the performer said before stepping away from the bed, removing both ear pieces, and gesturing with his hand for her to leave the stage entirely.
The moment generated divided reactions in the Instagram post's comments section. One viewer questioned the fan's decision to participate, asking, "Why would she go up there then?" Another commenter offered support, writing, "I respect her."
A third social media user analyzed Usher's response, observing, "She killed his ego a little bit, bro ain't used to that."
Usher is currently co-headlining The R&B Tour with Chris Brown, 37. The two artists announced the collaboration in April through a joint Instagram post declaring it was "time." The announcement attracted backlash due to Brown's legal issues over the years, which included allegations of abuse against women. Brown pleaded guilty to the felony assault of his 2009 girlfriend Rihanna, serving five years of probation.
Brown addressed the backlash in an Instagram Story shared on April 26. "The funniest and the weirdest s*** ever to me is the fact that poeple [sic] have the option to come to my tour and the option not to," he wrote at the time. "I know everyone who is a fan of me and USHER will definitely be in the building and it will be PACKED just like last year."
